I take a deep breath and I get real high and I scream at the top of my lungs “what’s going on?!“

Houston? Houston? No Houston?
Not sure if you can read that, not sure that you care… definitely not sure if I care, but this is the bracket for the NCAA Super Regionals that will be starting on Friday, June 5th.
Rice made the cut after the game one scare against Kansas State and will face Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge on Friday. The two programs have 21 College World Series appearances between them and should make for a good match up of perennial powerhouses. Consider me exhausted from pretending to be interested.
The other Texas-based match-up will be between Texas Christian University and the University of Texas (no capitalization on the article, “the”). UT has been to the CWS 32 times all on it’s own (great, another thing for them to brag about) and have won it all six times. TCU is just happy to be this far never having gone to Omaha for the final leg.
So, there you have it. You can pick from those three if you have state pride – which, if you read the comments on the NBA’s All Titty-Baby Team, you’ll realize TRG has NO(!) state pride whatsoever – or, if you prefer, take the classic underdog pick with C-USA brethren, Southern Miss (lowest seed in the Super Regionals at #3).
June 5th, everybody. Wait with baited breath!!
On to your Houston sports updates:
RUNNERS – Unfortunately I have no links to back this up, but I got a text from TRG today asking me to put this in the Smear. It’s Runner’s Day today and the Chevron Houston Marathon (sponsorship mention required) will be giving out free swag (or “schwag” if you’re yiddish-inclined) at Memorial Park. BLAMMO!! Found the link. See? We’re all learning a little bit today. 5am-9am and 4pm-8pm are the time slots that you can get free gear.
TEXANS – Wow… and I thought we were pushing it to drum up stories during the off-season. The Chronicle seems to be having a bit of the same problem. Yesterday they posted a story about why DelJuan Robinson wears the #66 jersey. Really? Come on Chron… I know you are having a bit of a financial hiccup, but this is kind of ridiculous. I saved a kitten this morning from a truck transporting chicken coups. That’s worth a mention, right?
ROCKETS- For just $195 you can send your kididdle to a Houston Rockets skills camp! That’s right! Just $195 for any of the five day camps!! You have to act now. First camp is on the 8th. The only other camp is scheduled for July 20th.
ASTROS – Miguel Tejada not only extended his National League leading 16-game hit streak last night, but he did it with a little flair as well. A walk-off home-run in the 11th inning is what the stats sheet says. As per yesterday, check out the seats behind home plate in the freeze frame on MLB.com… Awesome.
DYNAMO – Congratulations are due to Ricardo Clark of the Houston Dynamo. He has been called up to join the US National Team before the two World Cup Qualifiers against Costa Rica and Honduras next week. Don’t worry, Brian Ching will be there to hold his hand and show him the ropes (though Clark has already made 18 appearances with the national team).

I heard 13 of our 20 frosh recruits started summer school today. I guess they want to get two semesters of calculus out of the way before football season starts.
Do all on-campus summer schoolers still have to live in the towers? If so, that sucks.
